Claire is a little girl who lives happily with her parents in the Ardèche mountains. A fire ravages the mountain and the house. They all rush off to the city. Claire only grows up if she is loved, and she feels that she is no longer loved. She becomes small, small, small. Except for Pierre, the birdman, who whistles like the birds. He goes looking for her on Christmas Eve.
