In the autumn dew, little hats pop out of the ground… they are mushrooms! But beneath these funny little umbrellas lies an extraordinary, and sometimes gigantic, tangle of fine roots: the mycelium, the true body of the mushroom! When a mushroom is picked, the mycelium keeps spreading, and soon other fungi will grow back. And thankfully so, because we are not the only ones who love them! Animals feast on them, too. But beware: not all mushrooms are safe to eat! Bright blue crusts, small round shapes or starfish-like forms… smells of soap or candy… among all these varieties, it’s easy to get confused!
