Reading challenge: presentation

The reading challenge is a playful and different way to learn how to read for pupils in primary school. The reading challenge creates a dynamic around the reading between pupils, and pupils read a number of books in a limited time.

This kind of challenge arouses the interest of the pupils in reading while there are more and more video games and videos in our lives.

For this reason, Storyplay’r suggests this functionality: organize reading challenges from the Storyplay’r catalog.

Reading challenge process

A reading challenge follows steps in a classical way:

  • The teacher selects a list of books
  • Pupils read the books
  • Answer the quiz; read aloud while recording the voice (it depends on the type of the reading challenge)
  • Monitoring of pupil process and results by the teacher

Different types of reading challenge

There are different options for different purposes suitable for the age and the capacities of the pupil.

Options:

  • Give access to the audio version, or not
  • Add comprehension quiz
  • Record the voice

From these options, different types of reading challenges can be chosen by the teacher.

Reading at home

The teacher can give reading access at home for families without subscription, for a limited number of books (without the options above).

Reading and listening

The teacher can give the audio version access for pupils who are not comfortable with the reading, or in order to listen to a good reading.

Reading challenge with quiz

For a classical reading challenge, the teacher chooses stories with a comprehension quiz. After reading, the pupil answers the questions and the teacher can follow the performance of the pupil from his account.

Not all stories have a quiz yet. But you can send us a quiz and we will integrate it as soon as possible.

Reading challenge aloud

You will find explanation pages about the functionality use of the reading challenges in Storyplay’r below (in French):

  • The teacher account: enter the pupils, create the reading challenges, follow the use and the results
  • Pupils’ use

Limited use to respect copyrights

In particular, with regard to our rights holders (publishers and authors), we can not give too much access to families via the reading challenges. For this reason, there are a certain number of limitations in the setting up and use of the reading challenges.
