The sands of the forest
The first faint hints of dawn appeared. Little by little, the sun filtered in, its golden rays washing over the whole horizon. Moko and Meï-Li headed off into the forest to search for some very special plants. Meï-Li knew what they had to find. And Moko followed her.
The elders use these plants for many things, said Meï-Li: Cooking, medicine? They've got real special powers! From a branch she removed a leaf as big as a bird's wing, and let it drift off, carried by the forest breeze.
Moko followed the leaf as it danced its way, back and forth, through the trees. Finally, it landed. Moko drew close to pick it up but then suddenly, his feet started to sink down into the ground. He tried to free himself, but the harder he struggled, the more he sank. The earth is eating me up ! Help! he cried out.
