The ancient mountain

The ancient mountain

The snow’s thaw is drawing to a close and the mountain is shedding it’s white robe. Alarick and Moko are fishing in one of the mountain’s springs and are catching nothing. They ask an old wise man to tell them where there might be fish. He points them towards the road to the “Ancient mountain”. They follow the road the old man told them about and reach a green luxuriant hill covered with fruit trees and streams. They think that this hill, smaller than their mountain, richer and greener, is younger and simply hasn’t grown up yet.

It was daybreak and the sun was finally warming the land in Alarick's country. The snow was melting quickly and the mountain was shedding its white blanket. Moko imagined that he would soon be on his way to continue his quest for the edge of the world.
Suddenly, a delicate perfume interrupted his thoughts. An old woman arrived, carrying a basket filled with colourful fruits and flowers that smelled as good as his friend the old wise man's roses.
Where did you find all of this? he asked her. On the ancient mountain, just there. The time of fruits and flowers has returned. We must take advantage of it while it is here because it will not last long. But where is this ancient mountain, asked Moko. The best discoveries are those we make ourselves, my dear boy. We must find this place! Come, let's go.
